Elbe

The River Elbe runs for 1,165km form its source in the Czech Republic to the North Sea coast of Germany, passing through a wide range of scenery en route. From the highlands of Bohemia it curves west then north to the dramatic sandstone massif south of Dresden, continuing through the hills and vineyards of Saxony to reach the marshy woodlands of the Luneburg Heath and the flatlands of the North European Plain. Great cities have grown up along its banks, including beautiful, Baroque Dresden and Hamburg, Germany's most important sea and river port.

An Elbe River cruise also travels a short distance along the Vltava River tot he fairy tale capital, Prague and much further north along, along the Havel tributary to Berlin.
